This route, with high difficulty level, leads to the top of the Maliciosa (2227 meters altitude), from where you can enjoy a panoramic view of Becerril and its marvelous environment. Along the way, you can also enjoy the high mountain vegetation of the Sierra de Guadarrama. Take note that this is not recommended for those unfamiliar to hiking or mountaineering.

The route starts in the residential area of Vista Real and goes to the road on the right that starts at the end of Vista Real Street and goes up to the reservoir of the Maliciosa. At the beginning, you can fill your water container or bottle from the Fuente de la Peña de la Colmena (Fountain of The Beehive Rock). Then continue to the track surrounded by Mediterranean vegetation such as cistus, junipers and herbs.

We continue walking until we reach a junction that connects to route 1 “Through the Base of Almorchones”. From here, we can see a beautiful view of the valley of Barranca. We take the track that leads us to the trail, crossing a small gate to arrive at the reservoir of La Maliciosa. Walk around it until you get the track, which leads us up to the peak of the valley.

From this point, the track is marked with waymarkers consisting of stacked stones. As you ascend, the vegetation transforms gradually and some typically high mountain species like gayuba (bearberry), broom and heatherappear.

The road will slowly get tougher until we reach the hill, which divides both mountains of La Maliciosa: Peñotillo Alto (2124 meters) and La Maliciosa Alta (2227 meters). The latter is the goal.

Once we arrive to the hill, let’s observe the Alto de las Guarramillas, popularly known as “Bola del Mundo”, in where we can see television and radio repeaters. Looking at westward, we can see the emblematic landforms like the Monton de Trigo, the Siete Picos (Seven Peaks) and the Mujer Muerta.

From here, the track turns to the east that leads us up to the summit. At the top, we can see the Becerril de la Sierra and other municipalities like Moralzarzal, Alpedrete, Villalba, Collado Mediano, Guadarrama and the whole environment that surrounds them. We can also distinguish the different reservoirs of Manzanares el Real and Santillana, Navacerrada and El Pardo.

The way to come back is the same as what we used to get to the top.
